Vichy Quenching Mineral Mask

It's just all about hydration on the blog at the moment isn't it? Well of course being a dry skinned girl, who am I to turn down a new face mask with promises to give me hydrated, plump and rejuvenated skin all within 5 minutes. So naturally when I was approached and asked if I wanted to sample the Vichy Quenching Mineral Mask I jumped at the chance, so read on if you want to know how I got on.

Unlike what you'd expect from a mask offering to hydrate the skin, this comes in a gel formula which is easily spread all over the skin. In the past I've always steered clear of gels mainly because I have the perception that they don't intensely hydrate but once I've applied this, waited the recommended time and then removed it; my skin is plump and I actually feel like my skin looks brighter and more radiant because it's so hydrated.

For £14.00 you get a huge 75ml jar and because the product is so thick, a little goes a long way, I found that 2 50p size amounts covered my face and neck. The instructions for this is to apply your desired amount, leave it on for 5 minutes and massage in the remainder but I like to follow with my normal routine so I wipe away the excess with a flannel. The only thing I don't like about this product is it can dry a bit tacky which means when I have previously tried to rub in the excess it's been harder than expected so I've found lightly buffing away the excess with a flannel is a perfect alternative for me.

I've been using this as instructed between one to three times a week and I now reach for this whenever my skin is feeling tight, dehydrated and generally dull looking. I really fell in love with this after my holiday after using it on my sunburnt face and the relief I got from this was incredible. Heads up if you're going away and your face burns, taking a product like this is great for adding hydration back into the skin and if you pop it in the fridge for an hour before applying, it really packs a punch as it's already cooling; a must for anyone who's suffered from sunburn and all you want to do is plunge your face into cold water.

If you're after a product like this without wanting to break the bank I can't recommend it enough; Vichy products are always something I'd heard of but never really tried myself as I felt they were more targeted towards older people but I'm loving this mask and I'm really intrigued to see what else the brand has to offer.

This post contains a PR sample. As always, my opinion is 100% honest.

Makeup Revolution Pro Fix Spray

I've never been one for fixing sprays or primers, my make up tends to last all day on my face but the last time I was in Superdrug I picked up this Makeup Revolution Pro Fix Spray on a whim and to say I'm impressed is an understatement.

The only time I tend to use this is if I'm heading out for a full day or an evening where I'm not wanting to carry around a bag full of make up. I apply my normal skincare routine and then apply my make up as normal and once my application is complete, I use about 4 sprays of this across my face to set my make up. Initially after spraying it over my make up my skin does tend to look dewy but as the spray sinks in it doesn't affect the finish of my make up, so you girls worried about your flawless make up, don't be!

I can't say how well this compares to other brands out there including Urban Decay or Barry M but whenever I've used this my make up has lasted all day; for example last weekend I went out from 1pm and used this to set my make up, after returning home at 11.30pm my face was still flawless. It's cheap enough to use everyday, it's just personal preference that I don't and for the price I would probably chose to purchase this over a higher priced version.

I love Makeup Revolution and everything I've tried from the brand really has impressed me, their products are great quality as well as having a purse friendly price tag... Send me recommendations of your favourites below.

My Experience at La Mer

I know what you're thinking, am I crazy, but before you despair at me handing over a substantial amount of cash for a beauty product, hear me out. La Mer is the platinum tier of skincare with celebrity fans such as Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez as well as winning multiple awards and having proven scientific research behind the cream. A quick background to La Mer: aerospace physicist Dr. Max Huber burnt his skin during a lab experiment and in a quest to restore it, 6000 experiments and 12 years later, La Mer was born.

I'm one of those people who doesn't like to be pushed into buying a product and if I find the sales assistant overbearing I'm more likely to make up excuses and never return to the counter and if I want to buy it, would probably return home to order it online. When I went to my local La Mer counter at Harvey Nichols Leeds I was approached by the sales assistant who asked me if I'd used La Mer before; having seen bloggers and celebrities rave about the brand I was intrigued. The sales assistant sat me down, went through the brand, talked about my skin concerns and what kind of products I like to use on my skin and what results I was hoping to achieve. I was at the counter for a total of 45 minutes and in that time I didn't feel as if the products were being pushed onto me or I was pressured to buy them. I told her my main concern was hydration, if you're a regular reader you'll know my skin is DRYYYY, so firstly we sat down and discussed the creams and what kind of texture and formula I would like which would help my dry skin as well as being easy on a morning; we decided on the Moistursing Soft lotion, the same traditional La Mer cream but in an easy to apply lotion formula that packs in as much hydration as the original.

Onto the lotion; I'm a week in and I can honestly say that my skin is dramatically different. Using my previous routine I would feel like my make up was caking, it sunk into fine lines and by the end of the day I couldn't wait to wash it off. Since using the La Mer lotion my skin feels plumper, intensely hydrated and all dehydration lines have vanished. The sales assistant told me the maximum I would need for my face and neck would be 2 pumps, having used a good dollop of previous creams I was dubious if this would be enough, but 2 pumps warmed up in my hands and pressed into my skin is more than enough.

The sales assistant also went through serums, eye creams and cleansers which could be added into my routine to help maximise the hydration in my skin but at no point did she make me feel pressured into buying them, at one point saying "try the moisturiser first and see how you get on", she also took off my make up using the products, wrote down what she'd used to tailor a skincare routine to my skin and even gave me samples of the products to try at home with the cream to see how I found them. After the mini facial I came out and my skin was glowing and radiant, everything I'd been desperately trying to achieve.

The lotion retails for £170 for a 50ml bottle which is steep I won't lie, but using La Mer instructions and applying just 2 pumps morning and night the bottle should last 3 months at least. On average it works out at just £56 a month for the cream which can easily be dropped on a premium brand moisturiser that doesn't deliver. My only bug bear with this is the white packaging meaning I can't see how much product is left but other than that, the product itself is faultless.
