Too Faced Shadow Insurance

I suffer from dry dehydrated skin so you can imagine having oily eyelids is a very strange concept. Anyway, I'm a big eyeshadow lover but I have to make sure it stays in place. Previously I've tried powder, cream and even liner without a primer and it literally slides off my eyelids. I've tried all sorts of primers and after my favourite NARS Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base ran out, I decided to branch out and try the Too Faced Shadow Insurance.

Too Faced is a brand who's packaging and products are just swoon worthy and the sleek little packaging for the Shadow Insurance is no exception. The primer is a nude coloured almost gel like consistency which has a slight oily texture about it but once applied to the eyelids it dries matte and and creates a smooth base ready for eyeshadow application. I find with this you only need a tiny amount. When using this I've noticed that an oily residue comes out of the nozzle first before the cream, I don't know if I've got a bad batch or you're supposed to move it around in the tube before using. When I mixed it with the cream it does blend into the primer and doesn't separate - if anyone knows why it does this please let me know below. The longevity of my eyeshadow after applying this is a good 12 hours, I've even worn this on nights out and slept in my make up *hides behind pillow* and it's still in place in the morning.

I can't say I'm really won over with the formula, I definitely prefer the NARS Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base in terms of formula and application but the colour of the product and packaging of the Too Faced offering is winning me over slightly. I want to try more from the Too Faced range and have my eye on the Love Flush blush and Hangover Face Primer but if there's anything you love, leave me recommendations below.

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm

You know when you try a beauty product that's hyped and you instantly understand why? Well that's what I experienced with the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. Described as the ultimate beauty essential for those with tired skin, this radiance boosting balm brightens, tightens and moisturises leaving skin feeling rested and refreshed.

As of late, I've had a lot going on and my skin has really suffered with radiance, gone is my glowing complexion and I'm left with skin that's dull and lacklustre. Suitable for all skin types, I apply this 3 ways: 1) as a primer under my make up, 2) as an intensive mask and 3) as a moisturiser to perk up my complexion. I love the way this feels on the skin and once it's applied, it sinks in so quickly and my skin has got back that glow. A little goes a long way with this, only needing a pea sized amount and the secret is to pat it onto the skin instead of typically rubbing in like an ordinary moisturiser, it creates a film on the skin but the balm sinks in and that disappears.

Going for 30 years, winner of multiple awards and a cult beauty product, I can definitely see why. For those girls who love a glow but usually have to fake it, this ones for you...

The Empties Post 006

Hands up, are you someone who feels guilty when you buy new stuff when you already have lots? Me too. So here's my empties and an attempt to make me feel better about purchasing more...
Garnier Simple Essentials Eye Make Up Remover
A 2 in 1 make up remover which is very similar in comparison Clarins Instant Eye Make Up Remover. 9/10 times I remove my make up when I remove my base make up but for those lazy days or when you're wearing heavy/waterproof make up, this removes it in seconds.
Would I repurchase? No - but only because I've bought a similar one from Garnier.

Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser
This is without a doubt my favourite cleanser, it's holy grail. The scent is something I once hated but now I love it, it removes make up like a dream and my skin has never felt so good.
Would I repurchase? Yes, yes, and always, yes!

No.7 Hot Cloth Cleanser
This is a high street version of the Liz Earle but it's no way near comparable. This is thick, heavy and has a very strange scent. When I use this I don't feel like my skin is properly cleansed as it's too thick so it's difficult to work into the skin and properly remove make up.
Would I repurchase? No, I prefer Liz Earle.

Dr Bronner Lavender Liquid Soap x 2
This is the ultimate soap to wash your make up brushes with, it lathers up well, thoroughly cleans them and leaves the bristles feeling baby soft as well as smelling wonderful.
Would I repurchase? Yes, heads up - TKMaxx do the best offers on this too.

L'Oréal Professionnel Série Expert Instant Clear Purifying Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
My scalp has caused me problems since I can remember and with the combination of oily roots, dying my hair with colour and bleach and then dry ends, I suffer with the odd itchy and flaky scalp. I bought this to see if it would make any difference and it didn't. These types of shampoos don't tend to work and end up stripping colour from my hair so if you're the same, I've tried shampoos from the pharmacy work much better.
Would I repurchase? No, I recommend Selsun.

John Frieda Beach Blonde Kelp Help Deep Conditioning Masque
Recently I've dyed my hair blonde and it was a disaster to say the least (post coming soon), anyway I had to have it corrected and my hair took a lot of bleach leaving the ends dry and damaged so I turned to this to pack some moisture back into my hair and it's saved it. I leave it on shampooed hair for 10 minutes then rinse and my hair feels so soft and smooth. My hair has become prone to frizziness with all the damage but after I use this there isn't a frizzy strand in sight.
Would I repurchase? Yes, this is a great product especially if you're on a budget!

Clarins Multi-Active Night
My holy grail night time moisturiser, as well as packing my skin with hydration, it works wonders on blemishes and imperfections repairing them overnight leaving my skin plumped, hydrated and flawless.
Would I repurchase? I already have.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Mascara
Ever since I used this, I haven't strayed. The formula is so soft on the eyelashes as well as living up to the Double Wear name and not budging. I usually struggle with high street mascara formulas transferring onto my face but ever since using this I no longer have that problem.
Would I repurchase? Yes, although I have the Double Wear volume on the go now.

More beauty products bite the dust but that can only mean more on the way...

Monthly Favourites: July

July has been a brilliant month, my birthday trip to Barcelona in September is all planned and booked, I've been busy going out and seeing friends. I've got a lot to look forward to and I'm so excited. Here's to another great month and let's get onto the beauty bits...

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
If you're debating purchasing a Beauty Blender then don't bother, I've used both and I prefer this much more. The precision tip makes getting around the eyes effortless as well as the flat edge to blend around the nose and chin, I find it works best damp and teamed with Mac Pro Longwear Concealer it's a match made in heaven.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lip Liner in Tiramisu
Basically I want Kylie Jenner lips and seeing the latest photos of her rocking a matte nude lip has got me all over this lip liner. I line my lips and blend it out giving a hint of colour to my lips but with a matte finish. The pencil is a bit chalky for my liking but it fills the gap till I get my hand on Mac Whirl lip liner.

MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation
The newest foundation from MAC and an addition to their Pro Longwear family, a favourite range of mine. It's a much thicker consistency than the original Pro Longwear foundation, very similar consistency to Studio Sculpt but a better finish. I find when I use this I really need to pack my skin with some hydration beforehand, it's semi matte, medium to high coverage which is buildable and of course lasts all day. Tip: If you're unsure on the colour go get matched, I'm usually NC15-20 but the NC20 comes out more like NC15.

L'Oreal False Lash Superstar Mascara
The primer is my favourite step purely because of the brush, which is a shaped brush that covers every lash, even those hard to reach lashes in the inner corners. The fibre-rich mascara formula enhances lashes adding volume and length, and although it's a traditional bristle brush, it works wonders at separating lashes. I've used this every day since I've got it and so many people compliment me on how long and full my lashes look. The formula can transfer around the eyes during the day but it's minimal compared to other high street mascaras I've used.

By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Bronze Moon
I've written a full review of this here but lately with the weather being humid and when I've fancied rocking a smokey eye, I've reached for this as it stays put all day and the beautiful bronze compliments my blue eyes and really makes them pop. The formula is just beautiful, it's soft and creamy as well as being super pigmented.
