Back To Basics

This weather is playing havoc on my skin and I don't like it. One minute it feels as dry as a bone, next it's shine city. I can't keep up. So I've stripped my evening skin care routine back and here's what's been on the cards.

Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm Now the weather has actually melted this slightly but it's still working wonders, after a hard and hot day at work, this massaged into my skin leaves it feeling plumped, hydrated and thoroughly cleansed.

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Eye Cream This stuff doesn't work wonders but it is hydrating and my eye area is screaming for that at the moment. Applied day and night dehydration lines appear reduced and my eyes feel less puffy. I'll never be 100% satisfied with an eye cream until it works a miracle but so far this will do.

Origins High Potency Night-a-Mins Moisturiser Love it or hate it, I personally love it. This thick textured cream leaves an oily residue which my skin just soaks up. Every morning after using this my skin feels baby soft and looks better than ever. A brilliant hydrating night cream for us girls with dry skin. Give it a whirl, you won't regret it.

Philosophy 27 Wishes

I always read about Philosophy products and lusted after them ever since I saw my cousin with their gingerbread lipbalm, still haven't got my hands on that but it's been a brand I'd love to try so when their 27 Wishes* popped through my letterbox, I couldn't wait to take it to the test. To me this is a bit like the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, not a cream at all, if anything it's has a Vaseline texture. It's unscented which is a godsend, there's nothing worse than the EA scent. The 27 Wishes is a multi-use product that can be used for sunburn, dry skin, cuticles and cracked heels. I've been using this on my tootsies for pre holiday prep to get them prepared for sandal weather. This product drys matte, it doesn't leave any greasy residue behind and nourishes the skin to a T. I'll be popping this in my travel make-up bag to Cyprus and testing it on my sunburn, yes sunburn, it's inevitable.

The Empties Post 003

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil The lovely ladies at L'Occitane sent me this after my first empties post to replenish my stocks. I'm sad to see it go. I absolutely love their almond range and a pump of this in the shower or a soak in the bath makes skin soft and supple, plus the scent is dreamy.

Oribe Dry Texturising Spray There is a huge hole in my hair care routine now I've run out of this, I use this as a dry shampoo on lazy days and spray my hair pre-night out to give it some volume. I'm currently making a Oribe savings stash so I can purchase the full size.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream Perfect for dehydrated skin, a little goes a long way but I'm not sure I was wowed by this. It had no scent and it's very gentle on the skin meaning it would be perfect for those with extremely sensitive skin but there's just something about this that doesn't win me over. It may be the lack of SPF.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation I'm onto my second bottle of this, it's perfect coverage, dewy finish and lasts all day. A perfect base if you're on a budget!

Bioderma Need I say more? Who doesn't love this stuff?! I've already purchased another two bottles!

L'oreal Lumi Magique Highlighting Concealer This is my favourite drugstore highlighting concealer, it's great for those pesky dark circles and gives great coverage. I couldn't love this more I do think it's a little overpriced for the amount you get but if it's as good as YSL, I can't argue!

Summer Make-Up Bag

There's been a heatwave in England, who'd have thought it? I can't believe how warm its been and this calls for minimal light weight make-up. These are the essentials I have been reaching for and things I'll be taking away with me to Cyprus.

Base It's been all about tinted moisturisers and my Chantecialle Just Skin in Bliss is my everyday shade and the colour that is best matched to my skin all year round, when I'm in the sun or on holiday I always tan the most on my face so to add some bronzey goodness to my tinted moisturiser, I add the Bourjois Bronzing BB Cream, this provides some extra colour to my tinted moisturiser and makes it the perfect shade for me to wear whatever shade of brown red I go.

Cheeks I can't be without bronzer on holiday or in Summer, it's a staple item for me and anything to give my Caspar skin a touch of golden sheen is an absolute must. I've recently picked up the Bourjois Bronzing Primer, I've not used this as a primer but I tend to opt for it as a cream bronzer. It works perfectly on those pale like me and gives the right amount of colour without being orange. I like to call this the cheaper sister to Chanel's Bronze Universal, a dab of this on the cheek blended in with my buffing brush is bronzed perfection. If I'm wanting a highlight, liquid highlighter is top of the list and a dab of the L'Oreal Lumi Magique Primer over cheekbones and down the bridge of the nose gives a subtle highlight.

Eyes I couldn't ever imagine my life without the Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara, it gives perfect volume, length and nourishes the lashes. This lasts all day, doesn't smudge and keeps my eyelashes in place. I will be stocking up on this and purchasing a waterproof version to see my through those hot days.

Lips There's only one thing I take away with me for my lips, I don't mess about with fancy lipsticks and they melt in the heat, I've seen my lip butters crumble in the warmth so the No.7 Anti-Aging Lip Balm is fantastic for adding a sheen to the lips and doesn't melt. With SPF 30 it's brilliant for day to day use and keeps lips hydrated and protected.

New Beauty Additions

It's very rare that I find something I don't like, this blog is usually filled with products I love but sometimes some things just don't make the cut. I was recently sent these three products to try, big thanks to Beka for that, but I certainly wasn't wow'd by them.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Tender Night* It might just be the colour but this is useless. First off it's blue tinted and then the colour pay off is so poor. This gives you a bluey/purple iridescent tinge to your lips only slightly enhancing your natural lip colour. A lot of product has to be used to eventually get any colour but even then it's practically non existent. I certainly wouldn't fork out £21 big bucks for this. I love Nars but for me, this has been a huge disappointment.

Decleor BB 24hr Moisture Activator* Another disappointment, I love my light coverage and tinted moisturisers but unless you're one skin tone, this isn't for you. The colour is far too dark for me and I'm so disappointed this only comes in one shade especially from such a big brand. The coverage is very minimal and it just doesn't agree with my skin, by the afternoon it had disappeared. Definitely not worth the £29 retail price.

Seascape Island Apothecary Uplift Body Lotion* I can't make my mind up about this to be honest, it's most liked out of the lot but moisturising? Only temporarily. The smell is lovely with Lavender and energising lime but I really don't rate this much. The scent easily wears off and that soft skin feeling is gone within a day.

A disappointing batch from the beauty stash but you can't have it all, can you!

Monthly Favourites: June

Lee Stafford Beach Blonde Shampoo: Being a newly converted blonde, who is going through the "ginge" stage (not for long Beth, that's my mantra), I need to diminish any brassy tones in sight and to do this, the Lee Stafford has come up trumps. Hair washed around twice - three times a week has improved the colour so much, I'm a sort of blonde and I've had so many comments about my golden tresses.

Oribe Dry Texturising Spray: Oh how I love this product, it's my best friend in a can. For those lazy days where I can't be bothered, it's a quick spray of this for the ultimate lazy hair do and for those vodka fueled nights? It doubles up as a volumiser so a quick backcomb and a spray of this makes hair last!

Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment: After abusing the shizz out of my hair with Oribe and strong shampoos such as the Lee Stafford. Let operation hydration injection commence. This is my saviour, I've converted so many people to this, it's oh so nourishing and the only oil for my hair!

Bourjois Bronzing Primer: This is what I like to call the cheap sister to Chanel's Bronze Universal, my purse strings won't stretch as far as the Chanel so I picked this up after reading so many rave reviews. Primers and silicone are two things my skin hates but this? It blends in seamlessly, leaving a touch of bronzey goodness on my cheeks. I dab my RT Buffing Brush into the product and sweep across my cheekbones for definition and over my temples and down my neck to add warmth to my complexion.

It's been all things hair and bronzing this month, can you tell it's Summer? 7 weeks till Cyprus!

REN Radiance Perfection Serum & Resurfacing AHA Concentrate

There's not many things out there that wow me, especially when it comes to improving and adding radiance to my skin but that's until I tried the REN radiance products. I'm already a huge fan of their Micro Polish Cleanser and Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask but when they sent me their Radiance Perfection Serum* and Resurfacing AHA Concentrate* I couldn't believe the drastic improvement in my skin. I use the Resurfacing AHA Concentrate on its own under moisturiser as a treatment before bed or apply it underneath the Glycolactic Radiance Renewal mask for an extra boost. This stuff immediately improves the appearance of my skin, it's brighter, my skin looks more fresh and glowing and not to mention my skin felt baby smooth. When I wake up on a morning, the Radiance Perfection Serum has become a must have in my routine, I absolutely love this stuff, as well as working in conjuction with the Micro Polish Cleanser on a morning, this stuff has reduced any hyperpigmentation that is on my face and given my skin a well needed boost and appear more energised. Lets not forget the scent, all of REN's radiance range smell fruity and it's a smell I love. If you find that you're skin is lack lustre then definitely give the REN radiance range a try. I've tried many radiance products that just seem to contain glitter and have no added benefits to the skin whereas REN is packed with acids and goodness!
