Estee Lauder Matte Primer

If any of you follow me on Twitter, you'll know that I've recently bought some new make-up from Harrods. In the selection I opted for a primer. Unfortuately they didn't stock Benefit's Porefessional which everyone has raved about in the blogging world, but they did stock the newly released primer by Estee Lauder. So I decided to give that a whirl.

Estee Laudeer Matte Primer: 21.50

First of all, the product has lovely packaging, it all fits in with the style of the brand and has the trademark gold top. The primer comes in a tube which is the same style as their Double Wear Light, with a two tone cover, these covers are different for the Matte and Illuminating primer.

When you open the product, it doesn't have a distinctive smell, it's unscented, it smells like an ordinary cream and also looks like a cream. The product is a light white consistency (as you can see from the photo) that soaks into the skin very easily not like usual primers and once it's blended into the skin it doesn't leave the slidey almost greasy feeling that most primers do. I apply this to my skin after my skincare routine, with my fingers and wait for the product to soak in. The primer leaves a flawless finish to make-up when it's applied and definitely did give a matte look to my skin, I would like to try the illuminating primer to compare how effective it is.

Rating: 8 Overall, I would say this is a good product, the only downfall is that my make-up didn't last any longer. The primer helped the finish of my make-up and definitely improved the look of my foundation but I don't think it made it last any longer than normal. The product definitely does live up to the name, it does provide a smooth surface to my skin and helps control shine and oil.

Disclaimer: Even though I have very dry skin, I am prone to getting shiny skin especially on my forehead and around my nose.

  1. Ooh I didn't even know about this primer, I am a big fan of Estee Lauder - especially their foundation. If only it helped your makeup stay on longer :( I might see if I can get a sample from my local counter :)

    1. I got it just to fill up the order and give it a try. I think my next venture will be Benefit's Porefessional because so many bloggers rave about that! :)

  3. Need to give this a try, although looks like the hunt for longer-lasting makeup must continue! That's the biggest problem with sunny days, it melts straight off!

  4. Estee lauder face primer plus smoothing matte base.

This is what I used for years. I have very oily skin and this kept my makeup matte for hours. Now they have changed this and brought out the one you are all talking about which is inferior to the old one. Why do they change things for the worse and not the better. I hate it when I find something I like then they discontinue it. Wish I knew of another brand that was just as good.

  5. Same here the old estee lauder matte finish primer was so much better with thicker consistency. This one feels like the many other brands out there and you can get similar ones cheaper. Not impressed!
